Kathryn Hahn Is Ready To Be The Mother Gothel Of Our Dreams In Disney’s Live-Action Tangled
It looks like Disney’s live-action version of Tangled is slowly coming together, and honestly… the casting news just keeps getting better.
The studio already has two exciting leads lined up: Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim stepping into the charming rogue role of Flynn Rider. Fans were already curious about how the new adaptation would shape up, but the latest casting reveal might be the most exciting piece yet.
Enter Kathryn Hahn — who is reportedly taking on the deliciously wicked role of Mother Gothel.
And if you’ve watched Hahn in recent years, you know this casting just makes sense.
After stealing scenes as Agatha Harkness in WandaVision and later embracing the character’s full chaotic glory in Agatha All Along, Hahn has basically cemented her reputation as that witch. The kind who can be funny, creepy, charming, and slightly terrifying all at once. Mother Gothel needs exactly that energy.
Interestingly, Hahn didn’t make the announcement through some big studio press event. Instead, she did it in a very Kathryn Hahn way.
She casually dropped the hint during an Instagram “outfit of the day” video. In the clip, Hahn stands back to show off her shirt and jokes, “Hey, uh, OOTD, I just found out what that stands for. So here’s my outfit of the day.” The camera then reveals the real message — she’s wearing a Mother Gothel shirt.
No big speech. No dramatic reveal. Just a playful little wink to fans.
But if that wasn’t obvious enough, Hahn doubled down by tweaking her Instagram identity. She changed her handle to “motherhahn” and updated her bio with a line every Disney fan instantly recognizes: “Mother knows best.”
Subtle? Not exactly. Effective? Absolutely.
For years, fans had been pushing Hahn as their dream pick for Mother Gothel ever since Disney announced plans for a live-action take on Tangled. The character requires someone who can balance humor with manipulative charm — someone who can sing, scheme, and somehow still make audiences laugh while being completely villainous.
Hahn’s track record suggests she might be perfect for the job.
If this casting sticks, the live-action Tangled could end up being one of Disney’s most entertaining remakes yet. With a fresh Rapunzel, a charismatic Flynn Rider, and Kathryn Hahn chewing up the scenery as Mother Gothel, the movie already has the ingredients for something pretty fun.
